Description

This episode is a must-listen for Andrew's passionately eloquent rant in support of intelligent junk films. The new "Godzilla" is the latest heir to a cinematic franchise begun by Toho Studios in Japan in 1954 (the year they also released "Seven Samurai"!).  If you are in line to see "Godzilla" it means you are probably interested in watching mass destruction and monsters doing battle at the expense of San Francisco.  Andrew would argue that there is a deeper reason to catch a monster movie.  What is the threat in this new reboot?  While the original Japanese film had to do with atomic bomb anxiety writ large, what is the subtext for Gareth Edwards' new Hollywood remake? These questions are important to Andrew.  On the other hand, Phil doesn't need to have dimension in a Godzilla movie.  He enjoys watching the mayhem as long as it is well realized.  Do you have high standards for your "Godzilla"?
