Is a movie sometimes entertaining to watch in spite of itself?  COLOSSAL fails on a few important levels, but watching it reach for those heights and fall short is kind of, well, fun.  You can't fault writer-director Nacho Vigalondo for being original.  Anne Hathaway (in a delightful turn) plays a woman in crisis whose behavior seems to have found an unlikely avatar in the form of a giant monster terrorizing Seoul, South Korea.  Sound weird?  It is.  Sound interesting?  It mostly is!  The weaker spots mostly center around an unsuccessful performance by Jason Sudeikis and unexplored metaphorical significance of the monster.  But rest assured, there is nothing like COLOSSAL in theaters now, and for that reason, the film is worth seeing.
