Description

Based on a John Le Carre' novel, this austere spy thriller stars the exacting Philip Seymour Hoffman as the leader of an anti-terrorism outfit in post-9/11 Hamburg.  He is attempting to capture "a most wanted man", Issa Karpov, an illegal immigrant who could lead the outfit to further terrorist suspects.  The cast of characters is masterful (although Phil and Andrew quibble about the casting of Rachel McAdams).  Anton Corbijn, the director who cut his teeth on music videos in the 80's and 90's, lenses a dreary, stylistically spare film that focuses all of its machinations on the taut screenplay.  A methodical, modern thriller, "A Most Wanted Man" delivers its greatest impact moments before the credits roll.
