Whoa.  What's this?  An intelligent adult drama at the local multiplex?  It must be December...but it isn't!  I'm talkin' 'bout "Kill The Messenger", a dramatization of journalist Gary Webb's investigation into CIA tactics back in 1996.  The film follows Webb (a spot-on Jeremy Renner) as he uncovers information that the CIA introduced and sold crack in poor parts of US cities in order to fund arming the rebel militia in Nicaragua in the 1980's.  To quote Joe Biden: "This is a big fuckin' deal."  Webb risks his life and the life of his family, but he has that nagging journalistic integrity that keeps him pushing forward to the truth.  "Kill The Messenger" spawned a rant from our two hosts on the state of the movie industry.  Listen with delight as Andrew and Phil tear into the Hollywood establishment for making fewer films like this one, that appeal not to a particular demographic, but rather the intelligent moviegoer.  Our intrepid critics trace the history of the blockbuster and the opening gross back forty years. Why don't more smart films get made?  The answer is Hollywood seeks not to educate and enlighten nearly as much as escape and entertain.  "Kill The Messenger" is a hands-down recommended film by Andrew and Phil.
