Description

In a break from ACMQ’s usual storytelling format, Nj sits down with Nicole Englebrecht, author, and podcaster (True Crime South Africa), to discuss the South African parole system and what could be done to improve the system and minimise the risk of revictimization.

They dive into topics, ranging from Nicole's experience writing her book, Sizzlers: The Hate Crime that Tore Sea Point Apart and the cases she has covered on her podcast that touch on the parole process, to how the parole system can be improved and what alternatives South Africa could consider.

Nj also get Nicole's input on his conversations with Julian Knight, the lawyer who has previously represented Oscar Pistorius and Janusz Waluś in their parole applications, Tania Koen, who represented June and Barry Steenkamp at Oscar’s parole hearing, and heads up the Reeva Rebecca Steenkamp Foundation, and Karin Pampel, the trauma counsellor who worked with Nj in the wake of his 2023 assault.
