On this episode of Alumni Direct's show "ATHLETES TO ENTREPRENEURS: The Alumni Journey," we talk to Tim Selgo, former college basketball player, coach, athletic director and consultant.
Tim Selgo had a career of thirty-five years as a leader in college athletics as a coach and administrator. From 1996 to 2016, Selgo served as the director of athletics at Grand Valley State University, leading the Lakers to become the dominant athletics department in NCAA Division II.
Selgo is a member of four athletic halls of fame: The University of Toledo Athletics Hall of Fame, the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Hall of Fame, and the Grand Valley State University Athletics Hall of Fame.
Talk about how sports shaped you growing up.
“Athletics was a way of life in our family, so I grew up around it. I was fortunate to have two older brothers that I could learn from, and a father that could really teach. He could teach sports, he could teach life lessons, and that carried me throughout my career.”
