Today we're reviewing something that is commonly confusing for lots of students.

• When using comparative and superlative adjectives, when do you add the 'er'? (bigger)
• When do you use 'more'? (more beautiful)

Comparative Adjectives - when we are comparing two things, often uses a 'than' in the sentence.

If the adjective has one or two syllables then just add ER

• Big > Bigger

• Happy > Happier

If it has three syllables then add more and NO ER

• Beautiful > More beautiful

Examples:

• That house is bigger than mine.

• She is happier than her sister.

• That dog is more beautiful than mine.

Superlative Adjectives - when considering the a group of things the lowest or highest end of that group.

If the adjective has one or two syllables then just add ER

• Big > Biggest

• Happy > Happiest

If it has three syllables then add more and NO EST

• Beautiful > Most beautiful

Examples:

• That house is the biggest in this area.

• She is the happiest person I've ever met!

• Mine is the most beautiful dog in the world!
