Description

On this episode, it’s a pleasure to welcome Dr. Mark Goulston, a psychiatrist, executive coach, and consultant to major organizations. He is the inventor and developer of the process called Surgical Empathy, which uses targeted and focused empathy to break through to people and free them from internal emotional and psychological blocks that can impair their functioning, well-being, and satisfaction in life. He’s written many books, my favorite of which is Talking to ‘Crazy’: How to Deal with the Irrational and Impossible People in Your Life.

Mark discusses the power of connecting with people emotionally, what he’s discovered about suicide after 30 years of working with patients, the real reason we’re resistant to unsolicited advice, and much more. His podcast, My Wakeup Call, has had more than 20 million downloads. For more of Mark’s work, check out his website.
