Many assume that a status, or inheritance, can be earned, especially with social good works, such as works of charity. However, the example Paul gives in our Epistle, as well as Jesus' parable of the Good Samaritan, show us otherwise. Our inheritance is a promise and binding, declared to us by baptism.
