What was the real reason reading and writing were made illegal during slavery? I would argue, that there is a power in the language arts that the white supremacists who orchestrated the human bondage of slavery were aware of.
Furthermore, I wholeheartedly believe there is an effort being put forth to keep black people's eyes constantly glued to their cell phones and Netflix and to keep us focused on doing any and everything other than being able to adequately articulate and verbally address what our specific problems and needs are.
When you're able to identify and articulate specifically what and who the enemy is, the more effectively you'll be in eliminating that enemy from existence, which is exactly what the dominant society wants for black people.
This physical and virtual-based group (W.R.T.), which folks can attend virtually or physically, was one created for all writers to have a central place to commune and respectfully exchange ideas. But, its main function is to give black writers a place to have a support group, as white authors have.
This is a place where you, as a black writer, can come and get the group support you need that white writers have the luxury of having.
