Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.  Are automated driver assistance systems making us less safe?  While the technology that can keep us within lanes and allow drivers to take their feet off the pedals and sometimes even hands off the wheel…is designed for convenience and safety….Missy Cummings…a professor of computer science and engineering at George Mason University…who worked as a safety advisor at NHTSA for more than a year…says the systems have not made us more safe.  On a recent edition of the Smart Driving Cars podcast, Dr. Cummings said..

“There’s certainly a trend where people are crashing more often when they’re on ADAS systems and it is likely because they are speeding.”

One solution?  Have the technology not allow speeding…or inattentiveness.  That…is a coming debate.
