Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. A whole lot of us are getting tired of the video conferencing routine….with all of the work and schooling from home. But what if we were communicating with holographic images instead of a screen. T-Mobile is working with a company called Omnivor on holographic telepresence using the carrier’s 5G network….and is working on augmented reality solutions too. T-Mobile Executive VP of Advanced and Emerging Technologies, John Saw…says the breakthrough here is real time holographic communication…..
“The somehow are able, using volumetric spatial processing, are able to basically capture a three dimensional image of you, transmit it over 5G and recreate it over your phone.”
You do need an array of cameras in a room… those cameras in your phone won’t do the trick. But the technology works…and may be coming soon.
