It might be a winter break in the Premier League, but it’s not a Winter Break for the rest of us!

Hello and welcome to the Total Football podcast, I am your host Declan Harte, and joining me as always is Andrew Conway…

Andrew… hello… Andrew… are you there…

No! Andrew cannot join us this week so I must man the ship by myself. But, listener, never fear because the show must go on…

This will be a more relaxed and light show than usual, as you’ve likely noticed due to the runtime.

I want to just talk about the few things I’ve seen this week that seem noteworthy.

First off, the Premier League Winter Break started so there’s nothing to really say about English football this week, but there are games to look forward to. Next week the other half of the league play, with the biggest matches being Leicester vs. Wolves and Chelsea vs. Man United.

Then, elsewhere in football, the Bundesliga title race continues to be the most interesting in Europe. RB Leipzig held Bayern to a 0-0 draw that either side could’ve won. Bayern were overall the better team, but Leipzig missed a few great opportunities to nick it. The stand out performer the couple times I’ve watched Bayern lately have been Leon Goretzka and Alphonso Davies. Davies caused a lot of issues down the left flank for Leipzig

Finally, in Serie A, the title race heated up thanks to Juventus falling to a 2-1 defeat to Hellas Verona. Rumours are that Aaron Ramsey wants to leave the club, would he go back to Arsenal? Then in the Derby Della Madonnina, AC Milan completely fell apart as rivals Inter turned around a 2-0 half time deficit to win 4-2. Says a lot about Milan that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is their best goal threat. Lazio also won against Parma, so it does look to be a 3-way battle for the title in Italy.
