Reaction to the Clasico, fresh ESL talks and a deep dive on OGS vs. Lampard
Part 1
After weeks of chaotic results and high scoring games, the Premier League returned back to Earth this week. Finally, a “normal” week of Barclays, just like we asked for, right?
Hello and welcome to the Total Football podcast, I am your host Declan Harte. Joining me is Andrew Conway
Andrew, did you enjoy this return to normality or should it be crazy every week?
Part 2
Before we get into the Premier League action, we will begin looking across Europe as the first Clasico of the season went in Real Madrid’s favour, they won 3-1 at the Nou Camp.
There was fresh talk of the European Super League this week as the Champions League returned. How are we feeling on that at the minute?
Man City drew 1-1 with West Ham, a side they have gotten used to beating 4 or 5-0 over the years. Should we be concerned about City, or is this just a bad patch of form?
Arsenal’s unbeaten home run has come to an end, Jamie Vardy came off the bench to grab a late winner for Leicester City
And, finally in the news, we would just like to commend Marcus Rashford for his ongoing campaign to feed school children across the UK, the work he’s been doing there has been a fantastic ray of light in an otherwise pretty grim year.
Part 3
Both managers are club legends in their own right, but on Saturday evening Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Frank Lampard presided over a drab and dreary 0-0 result. The perception of the match going into it was that the loser’s job security would be under intense scrutiny and that this ultimately stifled the match into a safe and predictable goalless draw. Just how accurate a read of this match is that, and just how much pressure are these two managers under?
Part 4
The Champions League is back again already, foregoing the usual two week break to continue the second in a three week run of back to back to back midweek games. Is this a good format change? And are there any fixtures that stand out?
Plus, the big Premier League game sees Arsenal go to Old Trafford, where they’ve not won a league game in 14 years.
