While the Premier League sorts out its route to return, we look back on how the season took shape.

Part 1

After relatively comfortable wins this weekend, Liverpool and Manchester City now occupy the top 2 spots in the Premier League table. Despite Manchester City dropping 2 points at home last week, there is a feeling that both clubs have essentially picked up where they left off from last season. However, it is good to see the 3rd-6th place teams also pick up where they left off from last season by all fighting to ensure that they make it as difficult for themselves as possible to achieve top 4.

Hello and welcome to the Total Football podcast. I am your host Declan Harte and joining me today is Andrew Conway.

Andrew, why does no one want Champions League football?

Part 2

Let’s start with the big one then, Liverpool 3 - 1 Arsenal. Arsenal looked alright for 40 minutes, but were they really Arsenal?

Man United lost to Crystal Palace for the first time in the Premier League after 21 games. Saw a stat that they’ve won 3/15 games since the PSG 3-1 win.

Tottenham lost their first game of the season to Steve Bruce’s Newcastle, which, among many candidates, might be the most humiliating result of the weekend

Frank Lampard’s got his first win as Frank Lampard’s Chelsea’s manager, though it was a nervy performance

Aston Villa got their first win back in the big time, a 2-0 win over Everton. I just want to take this moment to talk about how bad Everton seem

Part 3

The Premier League season is only 3 games old and already the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham could be ruled out of this year’s title race. The first international break isn’t even upon us yet, it’s still only August, and here we are discussing a two horse title race between Liverpool and Manchester City. Both look unstoppable, both are on long unbeaten runs. How are teams supposed to stop these relentless machines? Can they be stopped?

Part 4

The North London derby has provided plenty of entertainment over the years, but who will come out on top of this season's first edition of the classic clash?
