Remember the good times? Like when Leicester scored 9 (NINE) and Xhaka cursed at his own fans! Only 9 days now before the Premier League returns...
Part 1
Football is a funny old game. Some weeks so little can happen that we wonder how on earth we can reasonably do a show, but not this week. This week saw a 9-0, a club captain booed off by his fans, VAR overturn not one, but three penalty decisions, a 90th minute own goal winner, and most incredible of all, Manchester United scored more than one goal in a game and won away from home. What a weekend!
Hello and welcome to the Total Football podcast. I am your bewildered host Declan Harte, and joining me as always is Andrew Conway.
Andrew, why can’t every weekend be like this?
Part 2
5 years ago Southampton won 8-0 against Sunderland, but this weekend they lost 9-0 to Leicester City. Swings and roundabout, ey?
Liverpool kept their 6 point lead at the top despite going 1-0 down to Spurs within 47 seconds. Have we seen enough fight from Spurs to suggest the players haven’t turned on Poch completely?
Christian Pulisic scored a perfect hat-trick as Chelsea won their 6th game in a row in all competitions. Is Frank Lampard the greatest manager of all time?
Part 3
Arsenal find themselves 5th in the league, top of their Europa League group, have one of the most exciting front 3’s of any side in Europe and have an incredibly exciting crop of youngsters coming through the academy this season. And yet no one at the club seems happy. This weekend saw a real nadir in the relationship between the fans and the manager, Unai Emery. The fanbase is baying for blood. After only 15 months in charge, it is clear that many Arsenal fans want Emery gone. Where has it all gone wrong?
Part 4
Will next week’s action live up to the drama of last weekend? Well Arsenal vs. Wolves will be at the heart of next week’s tension, as pressure mounts on Emery.
