The group stages are finally over and while they have been enjoyable, it’s time to get into the nitty gritty of tight, tense knockout football. Group H: Farce no. 1 of the day sees Africa’s last hope Senegal knocked out of the group phase on the basis of having earned more yellow cards than Japan. A sad day for African football and yet another day where FIFA needs to inspect their rules. Colombia bounce back from losing their opening game, but how far can they and Japan go? Group G: Farce of the day no. 2 sees England lose to Belgium in a game neither side actually wanted to win. Unfortunately for Belgium, they were the victors today but will it end up costing them? And will English arrogance cost them? They’ve already got their eyes on a semi final clash with Spain… No football tomorrow… How will we cope…?
