The penalty shootout Gods have smiled down up on us! Not one, but two shootouts for us to enjoy on what was an otherwise entirely ordinary day of knockout football. Spain 1(3) - 1(4) Russia: Spain completed over 1000 passes but failed to use any of those passes to set up any good goal scoring opportunities. They have the superior side, but they seemed to have no idea how to break down that Russian defence. Croatia 1(3) - 1(2) Denmark: Two very even teams reverted to knockout type immediately after a crazy opening 5 minutes. Both teams seemed to realise the ocassion a little too much which ultimately led to a disappointing clash. Disappointment for Schmeichel, who made 3 penalty saves during the match but his team still couldn’t win. Croatia now must be one of the favourites for the competition.
