Belle Gunness came to the United States from Norway in 1881, in search of the American Dream. Belle seemed to have it all in the beginning— a husband, a daughter, a candy business. But tragedy struck Belle and her family time and time again, making some question whether Belle’s misfortune was coincidental or self-inflicted. Belle’s crimes led to her earning the nicknames the Black Widow of La Porte, Lady Bluebeard, and the Butcher of Men.
