Many chronic illness warriors say, "I’m fine," but are you happy? Your happiness does matter. In fact, there is a correlation between happiness and how people cope with chronic illness and pain. In a research article by the University of Washington they found that people who found happiness “by having a life with lasting meaning were more likely to report lower levels of pain, pain that didn’t get in the way of their lives, and they experienced less distress (https://agerrtc.washington.edu/index.php?q=node/225).” Living a meaningful life can help you to find joy that surpasses the challenges of your health condition.
In this episode, Andi Byers explains her journey to finding her happy despite multiple autoimmune and chronic illnesses, and even a heart attack. She encourages us to stop hiding behind I'm fine and living and doing the things that make us truly happy. When she chose to live a meaningful life doing the things that fulfill her and helping others find joy despite chronic illness while managing inflammation, she found a joy that exceeded her pain.
