After responding to some recent press in the Christian nationalist circles, we discuss the factors that facilitated the rise of the Moral Majority and some of the mechanisms at work behind its scenes. This leads us to consider the lasting impact of the relatively short-lived organization, and to worry a bit about the political culture, such as it is, today. Is a politics of hope possible?
