Sammy is a powerhouse in her own right. She is a budding artist and illustrator.
Being 13 years Tommy’s junior, she came into his life initially as a studio assistant and student. In less than a year, they fell in love and became partners in all aspects of life and business. Sammy took over the entire back end of the business, leaving most of the art creation to Tommy, thus the name changed again to Tommy Castillo Studios. The name fit for nearly 10 years.
In 2013 Tommy and Sammy were married and as a team was unmatched by any other in the industry. Despite, Sammy’s art taking a back seat to Tommy’s 23+ year career, she continued to hone her artistic skills behind the scenes with plans of creating with him in the near future. However, In 2014 Tommy’s life long battle with Diabetes took a turn for the worse. The next three and a half years would see Tommy undergoing countless eye surgeries to save his vision, his kidneys failing, and having to go on dialysis. Sammy would also step up in these years not only as Tommy’s full-time caregiver but also completely taking over the business; including helping and completing art and paintings Tommy was too unwell to do.
June 23rd, 2017, after a year-long battle with kidney failure, Tommy passed away surrounded by Sammy, their dogs, and his friends and family in their Florida home.
In the latter part of 2017, it would once again be renamed to Tommy and Sammy Castillo Studios. It was a name that was supposed to have been used years earlier when they were to join forces and be co-artists. Sammy took over the business completely and came out of the doors sprinting. She spent the next two years honoring the legacy of her late husband but also trying to find her footing as an artist in the industry. Her direction finally came in December 2018.
As if history repeating itself, a young, handsome, Australian named Benn ‘karate kicked’ his way into Sammy’s heart. With Benn’s involvement in her life, she gained new confidence in herself and her art. In early 2019, Sammy came to terms with her position as the new artistic driving force in the business finally stepping out of Tommy’s 30+year career shadow. Once again it changed names for the final time to Castillo Studios. While a simple name at first, it is a name heavy with over 46 combined years of experience, memories, love, loss, death, rebirth, and ultimately renewal.
