In the mid-1980s, Gary Heidnik was capturing women and keeping them as prisoners in his torture cellar in Philadelphia, PA. He was the inspiration for the Buffalo Bill character in the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs. He was executed in 1999 and the last execution Pennsylvania has had since then.
