December 25 2006. Ryan Waller & Heather Quan didn't show up for a family Christmas dinner and no one can reach them. Officers arrived at their home for a welfare check. They find Heather deceased from a gunshot wound and Ryan walking around battered and saying he doesn’t remember what happened. He is quickly arrested and placed in the police car for four hours. The detective (finally) realizes during the interrogation that he needs medical attention. Their suspect is a victim himself. He had been shot in the head by home intruders who also shot Heather. He survived his injuries, but was approaching death.
