தொலைந்த கனா
(Tholaintha Kanaa)
Within the wet noses
Of the crocodiles straddling this beach
The lukewarm river
Lies sideways.
Why is it
That you are asking
For the freedom to dream?
The river that flows valiantly in torrents
Shall wage a solo war against the sunlight
For all to watch.
The forest that is
The stench of raw flesh
Stuck between the teeth of crocodiles.
You too,
Brim like the river
As treasure troves of diamonds.
White sailboats
Circle the beacon of hope in the west
And journey the hillsides of the ocean.
In the crocodiles’ eyes that burn like copper
A headwater of centuries’ worth of your dreams
Flows like an ash-hued river.
