As Jesus walked up to Jerusalem to begin the sacred events of the Passion Week, He told His disciples that the "Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes. They will condemn him to death and deliver him to the Gentiles.” The laying on of hands was essential in the Levitical sacrificial system. With Jesus entering the city we are reminded of His words that He did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. In order to do that God honored the system He instituted to allow the sacrifice of Jesus to extend beyond the Jews all the way to even us today.
