Band Together Pittsburgh is a 501c3 not-for-profit whose mission is to create music with people on the Autism spectrum. Co-founded in 2016 by Moondog and John Vento, parents of sons with autism who enjoy music. Both believe that music has the power to unify, inspire, and enrich lives. Listen in to learn how this organization has made a clubhouse in the back room of Moondogs, a local bar and musical venue in Blawnox, outside Pittsburgh. Anyone can borrow an instrument, and benefit from lessons. One Sunday a month is "open mike," where members sing, play instruments, and do stand-up joke telling, for the entertainment of family and friends. Band Together also provides training on becoming a DJ. Socialization has been expanded to include snow tubing at a nearby slope. This is one of the most unusual, successful, supportive programs I have ever encountered! Everyone wins. www.BandTogetherPgh.org
