Back in 2015, the national tour of KINKY BOOTS was on its way to Durham, North Carolina for a one-week run at the Durham Performing Arts Center. For BroadwayWorld, I was able to speak its Lola at the time, J. Harrison Ghee, who happens to be a native of North Carolina. Since our conversation took place, Ghee went on to do several stints as Lola in the New York production. In fact, they most recently participated in a workshop for a brand new stage musical adaptation of Billy Wilder’s classic 1959 comedy, SOME LIKE IT HOT, taking on the role of Jerry, which in the movie earned Jack Lemmon an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Ghee can currently be seen on Broadway as Andre in MRS. DOUBTFIRE, which recently resumed performances following a three-month hiatus.
*Two days after this episode was published, it was officially announced that J. Harrison Ghee will be starring as Jerry in SOME LIKE IT HOT on Broadway when it begins performances this November.
