One of my favorite features of the annual Folk Alliance International conference is the Folk DJ reception. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet Roots Music Artists and their representatives up close and personal. At that reception in 2018, I was approached by a British gentleman, Graham Jackson, asking if I would be willing to meet an Americana artist from the UK, Danni Nicholls. We made arrangements to have a sit down conversation with Danni in the KKFI suite the next day. It was a lovely introduction to her special brand of roots music… that to date has garnered her two consecutive Americana Music Association UK Award nominations… one each for Album and Artist of the year. Danni has played shows with the likes of Lucinda Williams, Sturgill Simpson, and The Secret Sisters and been invited to play at festivals around the world including Cambridge Folk, Americanafest and Folk Alliance International. She is a beautiful and elegant woman and it shows in her music. Her most recent work, The Melted Morning, is very personal but widely relatable… the pain and darkness of rejection, the fear of losing your own identity and the power of human connection to offer up hope in the face of life’s many challenges. Enjoy these few stolen moments with the very talented Danni Nicholls. Now that’s Americana….UK Style!
