Listen

Description

This episode was speaking with Shelby Barlow, a Learning & Organizational Development Partner and content creator who shared much about her lived experiences growing up in Mississippi as the daughter of a Black father and white mother and how cultural identity has been an area of exploration for her in recent times. Shelby expanded upon her childhood with her parents and the lack of diversity in her community growing up, cultural struggles with how society sees her versus how she sees herself, dating and friendships, as well as growing within her career field and entrepreneurial endeavors utilizing the power of social media and influence.

Exploring identity and how those cultural differences shape us as well as how not being accepted by society or cultural community can play significant roles in how we see ourselves and expectations from others.  With each of those experiences, Shelby has found a way and is continuing to grow as an individual within her own journey of self-discovery and is inspiring others to do the same by demonstrating a sense of vulnerability on public platforms for all to see.
