Q. Please tell us about your position in the District.
A. I am the director of business and finance and have worked in the district for 18 years. I also serve in the role of secretary for the BISD Education Foundation. Both of these positions allow me to place resources where needed for student and staff success.
Q. Briefly describe your role as the finance director
A. I am responsible for coordinating a $58 million budget, overseeing payroll and making sure all of the bills are paid in a timely manner. My favorite part of my job is working on compensation and benefits because that is where I started my career at Brenham ISD.
Q. Tell us about your position in the BISD Education Foundation
A. I work with a board of ten community members and our mission is to generate and distribute resources to Brenham ISD to enrich and expand programs needed to meet the district’s mission of excellence in education. The way we achieve this mission is to fund instructional mini-grants for our staff. Last year we were able to give the district $77,656 and I would like to reach $100,000 this year!
Q. How can the public help support the Brenham ISD Education Foundation
A. Attend the Arts & Appetizers event on Thursday, February 27 at 5:30 p.m. at Ant Street Inn in Downtown Brenham. There are many great pieces of artwork and auction items for sale. Purchase a raffle ticket from a board member or stop by the Brenham ISD central office to make a purchase. The tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100. Employees can participate in employee giving with a payroll deduction and the public can donate online at the Brenham ISD website. There are also sponsorships available for Arts & Appetizers. This year’s sponsors are Ant Street Inn, BIG, Crain Group, E3, LTY Engineers and Plan North.
Q. What can attendees expect at Arts & Appetizers?
A. The event will have appetizers donated by David at Design II, beverages by Mike Hopkins Distributing and many great pieces of artwork for sale. Half of the proceeds from the artwork will be distributed to the student artists. The event is from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and the dress attire is business casual.
