In 1 Chronicles 4, the Chronicler leads us through the detailed lineage of Judah and Simeon. The land of Simeon was right smack in the center of Judah's territory - the the donut hole of Judah. These people, places, and territories ushered in King David as well as our eternal King of kings and Lord of lords as the living links leading to our Messiah continue. In the midst of these lineage recordings, we come to a beautiful prayer of Jabez - who's name literally means pain. Jabez called out to God in faith for God to bless him. He asked God for more - to experience more of God. He asked God to experience more of His presence. He also asked for God's protection. He asked for God's presence, provision, and care for the purpose of spreading God's glory and His kingdom. His motive and heart was for God and His glory and God honored His faithfulness. We need to come to God with this same childlike faith and trust Him and His perfect timing. He will always honor our faithfulness if our hearts and motives are directed to glorify Him and His Kingdom.
