In 1 Samuel 25, Samuel passes and all of Israel gathers for his funeral. David then goes to Carmel and comes across Nabal who owes him a favor so David asks for just that. Rather than answering in hospitality, he is a fool (just as his name means) and responds by rejecting David and insulting him in his arrogance, selfishness, and entitlement. David responds in retaliation rather than seeking God's will and resting in God. Abigail, Nabal's wife rises and quickly intercedes by speaking truth and life and God's Word and will into his life. She refocuses his attention back to God and God's will. She brings God's wisdom and encouragement back into the forefront of his mind and he responds in great gratitude. David chooses to listen and Abigail is able to prevent the death of many people and also prevents David from behaving like Saul. Jesus was rejected by many but never retaliated. He kept His focus on God and God's will in His life. We need to be keep our eyes and ears open to Abigails in our lives and choose to be quick to listen when we hear them. God will move His will forth and we can trust and rest in Him no matter what we face. God is faithful.
