Description

In 2 Samuel 10 & 11, in the midst of a season of war, David is not at the battle lines as he should be. He is lying idle in his home and is faced with temptation of yet another beautiful woman. He sees something he likes, gets information about her, and has her brought over. Bathsheba is the wife of Uriah who is actually out in the battle where he's supposed to be. She becomes pregnant and in his sin, David falls into even more sin as he tries to cover it all up. Sin can't be covered up or watered down. Sin is sin and leads to more sin. In David's attempts to cover up his sin, he goes from being an adulterer to an adulterer and a murderer. The Bible is honest. It doesn't hide our ugly stuff and we shouldn't try to either. Sin always catches up to us and it will for David as well. God is not pleased with what David does here and David will have to face earthly consequences for these choices. David was a sinner but he was also a man after God's heart and will repent. God gives us redemption at repentance. Repentance is the only way to be free from sin. Jesus died on the cross so we could be free and cleansed from sin. David didn't have the strength of the Holy Spirit in him like we do today when we accept Jesus as our Savior. We have the power to run far from temptation. The strength of temptation is dependent on our relationship with God and our heart. The more time we spend with God and in His Word, the less tempting temptations will seem.
