In 2 Samuel 19, Joab shakes David out of his misery and into his role and calling as king. He is a king who is mourning his son's death but also a king who just won a victory in a battle. He had to set himself aside to properly handle his troops. He gets over his feelings and failures and steps up and out into his calling as king. We all need people we trust in our inner circle who will call us out when we need to be realigned into what we should be doing for God, His Kingdom, and His glory. As David starts his return to Jerusalem, everyone comes back and wants to help him along the way. Shimei who previously threw stones and cursed David, shows true repentance and David shows him mercy and forgiveness in response. David gets the big picture. Even if we have sinned really really bad, Jesus will mercifully forgive us if we truly repent. No sin is too big for God. He sent His Son to die for all of it. It is finished completely. All of it. We just have to make the choice to choose Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We can repent and be fully forgiven. The choice is always ours. He's waiting for us with open arms.
