In Deuteronomy 26 & 27, God's people are told how to respond when they enter into God's promise for their lives. Their first and foremost priority is to worship God. God wants an intimate relationship with us. The best gift we could ever give to God is our heart and soul wholeheartedly. We are God's special treasure, He delights over each and every one of us. The covenant the Israelites are about to enter into in the promised land is a bilateral covenant. They have a choice to follow God and His commands or to not follow Him. If they do not follow Him, the consequence is curses which will fall upon their lives. If they do follow Him, their lives will overflow with blessings. Today we have Jesus. Jesus gives us a very similar choice. We can choose to accept His gift of salvation or to not accept it. He died on the cross and shed His blood to atone for all of our sins if we choose Him. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we receive freedom from the curse of sin and the consequence of sin which is death. The penalty for sin has been paid by Jesus and if we choose Him for our lives, we receive the eternal blessing of righteousness before God in return.
