Description

In Exodus 17 & 18, the Israelites are traveling on through the wilderness and become thirsty. Rather than praying and trusting God who has already shown them miracle after miracle, they grumble and complain yet again. Moses cries out to God and God answers by having Moses strike a rock which causes water to gush out. Just like when the side of Jesus was pierced on the cross and water and blood came pouring out of His body. Jesus is the rock of our Salvation. In our thirst, we can call on Jesus. As we believe in Him, rivers of living waters come gushing - the Holy Spirit moves in and through us and conquers sin. The Israelites then face a war. God wins the war for them but only by Moses' faith in action. Moses had to keep his staff raised to have favor in the war. Aaron and Hur came along side him to help hold Moses arms up and steady. God did not design or intend for us to fight battles alone. We have to be willing to help others keep their arms raised and also be willing to allow others to help us keep our arms raised through our battles.
