In Leviticus 1 & 2, we start the journey into a priest's manual. A sacrificial system was established and it shows us what religious life looked like for the family of God at that point in history. The cost of sin is death. Something has to die for sins that are committed. When they would commit a sin, they would offer a sacrifice - a burnt offering. The whole animal used in the offering was burnt in the "I'm sorry" offering. It was the costliest sacrifice. Jesus paid the final price once and for all and offered His whole self as a final offering for us to be atoned for all eternity. God gave 100% for each and every one of us and thinks every one of us are 100% worth it. The grain "thank you" offering was the easiest offering and was an offering used to thank God. God wanted it easy so they could remember regularly that God is their provider and is the reason they have daily bread. The most holy part of this offering was the part that was shared with the priests. We are not alone and God wants us in fellowship and community sharing both with God and with each other. Jesus is our Bread of Life and gives us all our sustenance. Jesus is all we will ever need to be accepted by and close to God.
