In Malachi 1, Malachi is given a message by God for His people regarding their sinful impure hearts. God's people were not loving God. As God's children, we are to love God with all our guts and love the people around us out of that love for God. God pours out grace in our lives and wants us to pursue holiness and glorify Him with all our lives. We are not perfect, we are humble and repentant and chase God with all we got because we love Him more than anything or anyone around us. God's people were not honoring God's name or worshiping God with their hearts. They were faking it but were not making it. In these verses, God says if we are going to fake it, just shut the Temple doors. God doesn't want our fakeness. He wants our sincere heartfelt honesty in our worship of Him. He carries us through the hard times and rejoices with us in the victories. He wipes our tears and celebrates in our joys. He wants us to know and experience Him in our daily lives. He wants our sincere, honest worship. He wants us to deepen our relationship with Him as we grow more and more in love with Him through all our moments in life and glorify Him through it all to those around us.
