In Nehemiah 13, Nehemiah had returned to his duties as the king's cupbearer and after about a year, went back to check on the people in Jerusalem. He found the enemy was living in the Temple of God, they had compromised with the enemy and stopped worshiping God. They stopped taking care of God's Temple, they stopped honoring the Sabbath, and they gave the enemy a wide open door to the city. Compromise gives the enemy the crack he needs to enter our Temples. When we choose to submit our lives to Jesus, we become His Temple. The Holy Spirit resides in us. We can't compromise with the devil because if we do, he'll gain the ground he wants to invade our Temples. We have the power of the Holy Spirit to give us the strength we need to resist temptations and fleshly selfish desires that oppose God's will for our lives. Nehemiah knew he was God's child, he depended on continual prayer, he knew the Word of God and lived it out in his daily life, he humbly submitted His will to God's authority, he could discern the enemy's tactics because he knew the Word of God, and his primary desire in life was to glorify God and God alone. He gave us an amazing example for life. It's up to us to choose to follow.
