What we're doing is creating a FEELING just from you being in the space, even without picking up your sticks. If it feels energizing and inspiring every time you walk in, this will make all the difference to your practice. Our environments have a massive effect on the way we feel about what we do, so let's create yours! It doesn't take much, and most of what you can do is free. I wish I knew this when I started, because like so many beginning drummers my practice space was an afterthought of a corner in my basement where I could fit it all.
How do you FEEL just being in your space before you even play a note? We all have to work with what we have, and no practice space is perfect. You may be in a small apartment, or a large farm. Drummers are everywhere! Work with what you have, and try to create a FEELING. Do the best you can, with what you have, right now. I've had so many crazy practice spaces in my life, like hot furnace rooms and cold garages. I always did the best I could with what I had, trying to create a vibe using essentialism, minimalism, and sparking joy. Whatever you have to work with do your best to make it your own, and CREATE the feeling you want to bring to your drumming.
