In March of 1997, thirty nine members of the Heaven's Gate Cult committed mass suicide in the suburb of Rancho Santa Fe California. This mysterious group believed that a giant UFO was trailing behind the Hale-Bopp comet that was going to evacuate them from planet earth. Their leader, claiming to be the second coming of Jesus, told them that this was the only way to enter the kingdom of heaven and that this world was shortly to be spayed under and recycled. This event is said to be the largest mass suicide on American soil. But how could something like this happen, and could it happen again?
