Description

inspired by my poem, without you on my lips:

It was in a deep exhale where she could sometimes let go a little more

Always, a little more

It was in the expansion of her belly breath where she felt his love dance inside of her

And it was when she breathed out that she knew she had to watch him dance out of her, fluidly with the release of air moving through pursed pink lips

He couldn’t stay living inside of her forever

Not in a way that made her feel hostage

He didn’t pay rent

To stay dormant in her bones

And she knew he’d stay forever

Hiding in there

In the light of her soul

Without reimbursing her for the love she showered over him, time and time again

She needed a refund on the time spent lusting over his co-dependent wounds

Making her feel needed

Allowing her to feel special

Over and over again

She’d put up a notice

Two weeks she’d said

And you’re out

Pay up

Or you’re out

Put your lips on mine

Show me that I am not a fool

Or you’re out

Place your hands on my face and tell me it’s always been me

Or you’re out

Place your heart atop mine

In a pureness of knowing

That this has not always been a lie

Just tell me you’re afraid

And let the sun warm the places inside of me that have cooled over time

Protecting me from the power that moves through my bones when I’m with you

Let me go

Set me free

With your body

Here

Or

Leave

Take me

Or leave me

Dance with me

Or let me dance on my own

Pay me the rent for the space you’ve taken up inside my bones for far too long

I am no longer interested in protecting your heart with mine

Defending your scarcity with my strength

I am no longer the shelter for your story

I am no longer the breath that holds you deep inside my belly

I am now the exhale that sets you free

And finally lets me breathe, without you on my lips
