Charlie and Francesco, along with returning guest Chavonne Brown, certainly do! What is the challenge? To talk about all sorts of black heroism, starting with the afro-futurist blockbuster sensation, Black Panther (dir. Ryan Coogler, 2018). Incidentally, it’s the show’s very first superhero or Marvel movie!
From there, they take it to the blaxploitation action homage, Black Dynamite (dir. Scott Sanders, 2009), ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ style romantic crime film, Queen & Slim (dir. Melina Matsoukas, 2019), before ending the episode on the Senegalese fantasy-horror Saloum (dir. Jean Luc Herbulot, 2021).
