Context: Watched it on VHS back in the day and liked it. Was really entertaining, Remember watching Nine Nine video promo on Idlebrain.com. Became a fan I guess of Allu Arjun back then due to the acting, body and mainly dance. Ali track was hilarious and album is classic. Decided to watch it by random but I do like the movie. On the rewatch it was average I felt. It’s timepass. But it never bored you and was entertaining which is the main criteria for these movies currently. But very mixed feelings overall. That being said, hero characterization and romantic trick made me very uncomfortable and lot to say about it so let’s proceed.
Interesting Facts:
- Coming off industry hit Pokiri which rewrote records of 75 years of Telugu cinema.
- Sumanth was the first choice for the movie and Puri narrated it to him but he said no as he felt he wouldn’t suit the characterization. He made the right choice as you cannot imagine but Allu Arjun in the role
- After the release of Happy (2006), Allu Arjun was reported to be keen to act in the Telugu remake of Sivakasi (2005) starring Vijay and Asin.[5] He later accepted to act in a film directed by Puri Jagannadh and produced by DVV Danayya under the banner Universal Media.[6] The title was confirmed as Desamuduru.[7] Puri Jagannadh worked on the film's script at Bangkok and returned to Hyderabad on 16 June 2006.[8] The film had its official launch at the office of Puri Jagannadh's production company Vaishno Academy on 19 June 2006. Hero Allu Arjun could not make it to the launch as he is in abroad at present.
- For his role, Allu Arjun sported a long hairdo and built six pack abs. He was the first South Indian hero to sport a 6 pack for a role and 3rd actor after Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Makers decided to cast Hansika Motwani who had a role as Child Artist in Koi Mil Gaya was selected as the female lead which marked her debut in Telugu cinema as an lead actress at a very young age of 16. Rambha was selected for an item number in the film, despite initial reports stated that Charmee Kaur would dance in the song
- Filming began on 14 July 2006 at Hyderabad where the film's first schedule was shot. The next schedule began in Himachal Pradesh.[16] Few action sequences were shot at Manali in early September 2006.[17] Weeks later, few scenes between the lead pair were shot in Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh. This schedule was planned to be wrapped up on 5 December 2006.[18] However the schedule was completed on 10 October 2006.[19] Some crucial action sequences were shot at Aluminium Factory in Gachibowli in early December 2006.[20]
- December 25th, 2006 audio was launched and became a huge hit, The song Ninne Ninni especially shook all of Andhra and was played for a very long time.
- Amidst huge expectations, the movie released on January 12th 2007 along with Yogi and released with 500 screens in total: 424 in Andhra Pradesh, 32 in Karnataka, 8 in Orissa, 2 in Chennai, 3 in Mumbai and 31 overseas
- Movie became a blockbuster at the box office and collected 22.5 crores share becoming the highest grossing movie in Allu Arjun’s career at the time
- Ran for 50 days in 243 centers, 100 days in 129 centers, and 175 days in 10 centers.
