Context and First Impressions: Saw it in theaters in 2007 in North Bergen NJ. My dad and I were the only people in the theater that day, got some samosas and then 5 more people came later on. Came with a lot of hype and didn’t listen to the songs and only after watching the movie loved them and got to know it;s Harris Jayaraj. Didn’t understand Ileana hype back then but then rewatched the movie when I was older and its so obvious lmoa. Remember it being action packed but disappointing in the end. Flashback was disturbing and actually the downfall of the movie. Rewatched it in 2020 and same feeling. First half thop, 2nd half pace completely dips and becomes a drag.
Interesting Facts:
- March 25th, 2006 movie was launched - NTR, Venkatesh, and VV Vinayak were the chief guests.
- Original cinematographer was Shyam K Naidu but he was replaced by C Ram Prasad later on who
- Dil Raju revealed that both Bommarillu and Munna were shot at the same time. Meaning both films were under production at the same time. Bommarillu started filming in January 2006 and then Munna in April 2006. Originally they thought of Dussera 2006 release for Munna but Bommarillu released first and became a huge blockbuster and classic movie for the banner
- Prabhas okayed the story in a single sitting and already expectations were sky high because Dil Raju delivered 3 back to back blockbusters in Arya, Bhadra, and Bommarilu
- Kadhulu Kadhulu song was talk of industry because they filmed it for 9 nights
- Vamshi Paidipally was apparently really aggressive during the making of Munna and Dil Raju felt the story was weak from pre climax to climax and had a meeting with Koratala Siva and BVS Ravi who were the co writers for the movie. Vamshi Paidpallu was adamant that it will work and Dil Raju said ok lets trust him and go for it
- We wanted to come out of love and family stories and do a proper commercial film. Sirish and Lakshman (my executive producers) did not like the story. But the success of Bhadra film gave me confidence to go ahead. We worked out the negatives of Bhadra while shooting and came up with a decent film. Likewise I though that I could workout during the shooting stage of Munna. The film started with a negative talk and it got decent money because of summer release. I am not satisfied with Munna as a maker.
- Dil Raju put a special preview show for his friends and team and there was a lot of mixed talk for 2nd half. Watched the movie FDFS and understood it;s a not a hit. Went to Prabhas and said this and he was shocked. But he was right. Despite this, the movie ran for 100 days in 9 centers and ended up as average at the box office which is the right result.
