A love letter to the arts, but a big, middle finger to the industry. Damien Chazelle split audiences with his divisive epic period film about Hollywood, from its infancy with silent films to its first "talkies." There were some who did not like it at all and there were some who absolutely adored his vision of how much the industry has changed. The 3 hour run time might scare some off, but this movie feels like what it's like to be on a roller coaster while on drugs: the highs are high and boy, are the lows low. The variety of perspectives we see from the ensemble cast and the parallels between characters highlights Chazelles brilliant story telling and how his characters are dynamic and complex and not to mention the amazing jazz score. Although it may not have had the box office success, Damien Chazelle continues to impress with his directing talent and this will be another of his movie that will age like wine. This was a fun overall watch and we had fun debating our thoughts about it; kudos to Bryan for picking such an interesting film that even made us divisive. And shoutout to Jarritos for coming out with Cantaritos, a hard soda based off their delicious sodas that fueled this episode. IG: @buzzedcandidandcritical
