In John 6 Jesus says something that dramatically changes the way He was viewed by many who were following Him—a statement that caused many to turn their backs and abandon Him. These disciples were walking with the son of God, they were 24 inches away from Eternal Life itself, and they decided it was too high of a price to pay.
