In order to seek to understand, we must learn to listen. Most people do not listen with the intent to understand... most people listen with the intent to reply. Listen a lot more and ask more questions than you are talking.
Know that the universe is abundant for everyone... If you take from the pile, it doesn't mean that there is less for other people.
Think about how they can add value to what you are doing and think about how you can add value to what they are doing.
