Tracy & Jackie sit down and interview Derek VanLuchene via phone to learn more about his position as the National Child Abduction Response Team Coordinator with the National Criminal Justice Training Center. Derek gave up his career in law enforcement to create the non-profit organization, Ryanunited.org in honor of his brother, Ryan, who was abducted and murdered in 1987 at the age of 8. Derek has spent his life working to educate the law enforcement community on child abduction issues, as well as advocate for victims of crime. Through his selfless purpose driven service, Derek has experienced trauma over and over and talks openly about his issues with alcohol, his road to recovery, and his new life of sobriety. Derek speaks passionately about resources available to victims of crime and to criminal justice workers who experience trauma in their work. Lastly, Derek and Tracy talk about purpose and how people can work towards discovering and following their purpose in life. Thank you, Derek, for giving such a raw and heart touching interview so others can begin to understand what you, your family, and others in your position have gone through. Sending all of the healing light and love.
